Dealling With Rejection
Oh boy. Rejection does sting, doesn't it?! You have a great product, idea, or business opportunity, and you can't WAIT to share it with those closest to you! After getting shut down 2 or 3 times, you may start to lose confidence in what you are doing. This may result in moving on to the next great opportunity or just quitting all together. What can we do to change the way we look at rejection? Some coaches will tell you, "it's a numbers game, just ask more people...you have to present the opportunity to someone several times before they get it, so keep asking them...ask everyone within three feet of you...etc." Well the problem with this approach is that the reality is that your product, idea, or opportunity is NOT for every one. What if you tried out a mind shift for a while. Go from selling to prospecting. ASK people qualifying questions to determine if it even is something they would be interested in. For example, before "pitching" something like Yuwie or Mylot, ask if they are familiar with social networking? Keep asking questions. Ask if they already have a social networking site, and if so, how often do they log on? What do they like to do most when they log on? Blog? Upload photos? Leave comments for their friends? The one who's asking questions is the one who's in control. In addition to prospecting, remember that business is about relationships. If people only hear from you when you want to sell them something, they will stop answering your calls, I can guarantee it. Think in terms of how you can add value to their lives. Don't underestimate the value of good old fashioned personal touch, either. In this high tech world, a personal, hand written note stands out in a crowd! Outside of actually contacting people, make sure you are filling your head with POSITIVE input on a daily basis. Google "ecouraging quotes," or "positive messages," and find something that appeals to you. Work on your goals. Listen to motiviation or training CDs to build you up. Practice this daily to help counteract all the negativity you encounter on a regular basis. Do what you believe in. Keep on Keepin' on. |
